Mobile is highly personal:
In 2008, more than a trillion text messages were sent world-wide.
The number of Americans who browsed the internet via mobile devices grew 61% in 2008 versus 2007. 26.3% of mobile phone subscribers will log into the internet at least once per month in 2009, but only 40% will have a positive experience.
In January alone, ComScore reported more than 27 million people accessed social networking sites from their mobile phone. One third of young adults access Facebook and Twitter on their mobile devices.
The mobile landscape is maturing:
The mobile audience and technology have matured significantly in the last couple of years. Consumers engage in mobile media more than ever before. The time is now to take initial, or expanded, steps.
Mobile marketing is expected to grow from $64.8 million in 2008 to $3.3 billion in 2013.
This year alone, marketers will spend $760 million in mobile advertising (+17.3)% and almost 1 billion in 2010—an increase of 30.9% over 2009
Not just brick and mortar anymore:
Consumers are expecting real-time access to shopping options. Interactivity In-Store is expected to soar through mobile devices.
Shoppers are 2.5 times more likely to accept reviews than store associates.
65% of all shoppers are multi-channel shoppers. Multi-channel shoppers spend 30% more.
66% of shoppers read online reviews. Reviews directly influence 80% of these consumers.
A little goes a long way:
Initial steps and creative mobile marketing efforts don’t have to be expensive or complex. Only a clear vision is required.
These steps can be as simple as an SMS campaign that generates audience interaction. Longer term, integrated mobile campaign concepts will drive increased participation and incremental sales.
It is here to stay:
Mobile technology is a robust, multilayered pyramid. Done well, mobile marketing creates a rich brand and consumer experience.
There are 55 million smart phones in use today.
More than 160 million people are on a text plan—their average age is 38—a proven mobile marketing weapon that is driving brand awareness already.
There are approximately 54.5 million active mobile internet users. There are more than 172 million phones that are capable of browsing the web—these sites can add incredible value to a brand.
